Listen to The Daily Sports Quiz hosted by Nick LaCapria here in Cincinnati on WDJO 99.5 FM, 1480 AM, and 107.9 FM. The answer to this weeks question is Joe Burrow, he's the one in the Super Bowl that had a Grandmother drop 62 points in a High School Basketball game! A Mississippi State record!
The Cincinnati Bengals blew out the Buffalo Bills in the 2022-23 playoffs, but Cincy was eliminated in their next game by the KC Chiefs who wound up winning the SuperBowl. In the 2021-22 season the year before the Bengals represented the AFC in the Superbowl and lost a tight game to the Rams.
The Cincinnati Bearcat Basketball team has been strong in recent years. Bearcats are in the off season now and look forward to the fall of 2023 to start playing again.
The Reds shut out the Brewers (6/5/23) 2 to 0. Reds are now 27 and 33 in the NL Central, 5 and a half back of the Pirates. Better than last season when the Reds suffered 100 losses in 2022 for only the 2nd time in team history. The Reds fired 5 of their coaches the day after losing their final game of the 2022 season.

"Reds Ownership needs a wake up call"
For the second time in Cincinnati Reds history, the Reds have lost 100 games! A 62 and 100 finish this year for the last National League team to win back world series titles in 1975 and 76. Now, those Big Red Machine teams really feel like a thing of the past! Firing 5 Coaches after getting blown out by the Cubs 15 to 2 on the last day of the regular season is a scape goat to a much deeper problem here in Cincinnati.
The Reds troubles have to do with the fact that ownership feels that they can't compete with the Big Market teams. Yet, not to far from here in Cleveland we witnessed a Guardian team that plays in a City about the same size as the Reds, that just won the AL Central.
A market population of 104,508 makes Green Bay, Wisconsin the smallest market in the NFL Yet, the Packers are always competitive and have won the second most games in the history of the NFL. Not to far from Green Bay is another smaller city that has a population pretty close to here in Cincinnati named Milwaukee. Small City? A couple of years ago the Bucks beat every BIg City squad and won the NBA Title!
40 years ago was the last and only time that the Reds had a 100 loss season, when they went 61 and 101. The New York Mets have had SIX 100 loss seasons! That ranks 2nd overall as the most ever. The last time I checked, New York was a larger city than any other City in Baseball. It's not the size of a City that creates championships although former MLB Commissioner Bud Selig made us all feel that way because he had owned a team in a smaller city. The truth is you can win in a small market! Go out and build a team and see what happens!
The Phillies, Cardinals, Dodgers, Rockies, Angels, and Yankees have never lost 100 games in a season.
Here in Cincinnati, our NFL team went to the SuperBowl last year, we had a College Football team reach the National Playoff last year!
Baseball has a long following and a rich history here in Cincinnati. Firing 5 Coaches the day after we have a 100 loss season is not the answer. It is time to turn things around here in Cincinnati!
Nick LaCapria
The Reds are Baseball's original team. They suffered their second 100 loss season ever in 2022. Firing 5 Coaches when the season ended was not the solution.
